Phenakite on Albite Matrix. A gorgeous Phenakite mineral specimen, this piece is loaded with sparkling colorless rhombohedral Phenakite crystals, on white Albite matrix. A rare find from Mt. Antero, Chaffee Co., Colorado.

Phenakite is a rare beryllium silicate mineral, known as one of the most pure, highest vibration crystals on Earth. Phenakite is highly desirable among advanced mineral collectors and the metaphysical community. It has a high refractive index (1.65-1.70), contributing to its brilliance, sparkle and bright luster. Phenakite crystals are typically colorless or white. But can also exhibit subtle hues; pale yellow, golden, pink, brown or grey, caused by trace impurities.

Due to its unique open lattice crystal structure and the nature of its atomic bonds, Phenakite has high thermal conductivity and can melt through ice, with its ability to transfer thermodynamic energy through lattice vibrations. Phenakite (also spelled Phenacite) has excellent durability, with 7.5-8 on Mohs hardness scale. Crystals are; rhombohedral, tabular or prismatic, long prismatic with twinning drill-bit terminations are very rare.

Phenakite is found only a handful of localities around the world, including; Ural Mountains Russia, Norway, Mogok Myanmar (Burma), Brazil, Jos Plateau Nigeria, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Mt Antero Colorado and Maine. Phenakite is a beryllium silicate mineral, it crystallizes in pegmatites, along with other valuable minerals, such as; Aquamarine, Topaz, Tourmaline, Rubies, Emeralds, Sapphires.
