Darwin Glass is a tektite, this natural glassy material formed when a meteorite impacted the Earth, 800,000 years ago, creating the Darwin Crater, on the island of Tasmania. The crater is 1.2km in diameter and 200 meters deep, located in the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. Surrounded by remote rainforest and mountainous terrain. Because of the geographical isolation, Darwin Crater is one of the least visited meteorite impact sites in the world.
Darwin Glass has a distinctive appearance, it has a semi-translucent to opaque gray color, with unusual shapes, twists and folds. The strewn field where Darwin Glass is found, is about 400 square km, near Mt Darwin. Darwin Crater lies near the southeast edge of this strewn field.
