This extraordinary permineralized fossil wood specimen formed during the Late Triassic Period, when a prehistoric forest was scorched by fire, swept away by floodwaters, and eventually buried in silica-rich sediment. Over time, quartz and calcite crystals grew within the carbonized wood, replacing organic material and creating this sparkling, mineral-rich fossil. Discovered on a private ranch in Northern Arizona, this locality has produced exceptionally unique permineralized wood—only three logs of this material have been found, limited quantity available.
