Smoky Quartz from El Chaltén, Santa Cruz Province, Argentina. It was collected in 2023 at 12,000 ft elevation in the picturesque snow-capped mountains above the scenic village of El Chaltén. This is a stunning high quality Smoky Quartz crystal with deep espresso color saturation and it features glittering silver Hematite inclusions, that sparkle like stars against the night sky. The contact point can be seen on the bottom of the crystal, where it was attached to the host rock. The piece is translucent when back-lit. 

This particular piece was a rare find, the South American miner who collects the Smoky quartz crystals, brought everything he collected during 2023 to the Tucson gem show this year. Of all the pieces, this piece was the only one of its kind, coated with gorgeous glittering Hematite. Collecting these high elevation smoky quartz crystals requires tremendous effort and skill, since the only way to reach the tiny quartz pockets is by rock-climbing, with ropes and harnesses in snow and ice. Collecting quartz in this area is very similar to collecting Swiss Gwindels.
